If you love animals then we know you will only adopt a rescue animal from a local animal shelter and never from a pet store or a breeder. At Doobert we’re proud to support hundreds of reputable animal rescue and shelter organizations across the country and the tens of thousands of volunteers who support them.
When you adopt, consider the circumstances
So when the time comes for you to adopt from your local shelter, please, recognize and remember all of the work that the animal shelter workers and animal rescue volunteers put into bringing your new family member to you and do not tell them you are “rescuing” your pet from them. It is an unfortunate reality that many local animal shelters are indeed overcrowded or underserved and it may seem like you are doing them a favor adopting one of their pets into your home. However these animal shelter workers and volunteers work tirelessly to provide the best care they can for the animals in their care, considering the resources they have available. While they may not be able to provide the long-term forever home that you are going to provide, they still do their best to provide as much love and care and respect for life as they can and it can hurt their feelings when you compare your adoption of the animal to all of the work that went into getting them safely to that point.
Appreciate your local animal shelter
Animal rescue is hard, there’s no getting around that. We support adopting your animals from the local animal shelter for sure and we encourage you to tell them “Thank you for what you do” when you adopt your new family member. They will surely appreciate the gesture.
