If you’ve turned on the radio in the last 10 years you’ve probably heard one of her songs. Lady Gaga is an international sensation and all-around awesome human being. She is not shy about her love for animals and the animal welfare movement. And they have more in common than you might think.
7 amazing things Lady Gaga has in common with animal rescue
1. She changed her name
Every animal that has come through a local animal shelter likely has had more than one name. In fact it’s one of those jobs that animal shelters do on a regular basis. We’re sure you’re not surprised to learn that Lady Gaga is not her official birth certificate name and that it’s just one she adopted many years later. In fact, Lady Gaga’s real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Phew! Lady Gaga is much easier to remember.
2. She has many nicknames
Like our favorite companions, Lady Gaga has many a nickname including Gagaloo, Loopy, Mother Monster, Rabbit Teeth and Little Mermaid. No animal we know has only one name. And in case you still haven’t read the story of Doobert, be sure to check it out. His name came about as a nickname and has blossomed into a global service helping save animals.
3. She is a fan of Bugs Bunny
Ok we agree that just being a fan of the Bugs Bunny cartoon doesn’t make one an animal rescuer, but we have to admit that it’s pretty cool that Bugs Bunny is her favorite!
4. She’s an animal rights advocate
Lady Gaga has not been shy about her love of animals and her belief in the animal rights movement. Likely you remember that infamous meat dress she wore to the 2010 Video Music Awards. She wore it to raise attention to animal rights saying, “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”
5. She loves her fans and they love her
Don’t be shy, we know you have fans. You’re an animal rescuer after all, a savior for animals! Lady Gaga loves her fans like you do. She once sent out for $1000 worth of Papa John’s pizza for her fans when she saw a number of them waiting for her outside a record shop where she was doing a signing. We’re not saying you have to buy pizza for your favorite fans and volunteers, but simply thanking them for all that they do would be a nice gesture.
6. She’s self-motivating
All of the animal rescuers out there are self-motivating. They freely give of their time, money and resources to help animals. Some days it’s hard but we keep going knowing that we have to make a difference. It might surprise you to know that Lady Gaga has to motivate herself sometimes. She has said that she overcomes feeling vulnerable by giving herself pep talks. She once was quoted in Rolling Stone magazine as saying “When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24 year old girl. Then I say, ’Bitch, you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today’.” Whatever it takes to get the job done!
7. She loves dogs
Of course we would be remiss to not mention Lady Gaga’s love of animals, and in particular dogs. Gaga uses Great Danes in her videos (they can be seen in the promos for ‘Paparazzi’, ‘Pokerface’, ‘Love Game’, ’Eh, Eh’, ‘Telephone’, ’Bad Romance’ and ‘Alejandro’).
