“Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”
– Steve Jobs
Every one of us struggles from time to time. It’s part of life. Like you, I often struggle with what is my purpose and path in animal rescue, where am I going, and how will things work out. Sometimes it feels like I’m working in the post office where the mail just keeps coming and there’s no beginning or end; no stop; no outlet.
For whatever reason, when it seems the most difficult, it’s usually then that I stop and realize that what we’re doing matters. I’m not adding more profitability to the bottom line of a company, developing the new fashion trends or growing my following on Instagram…I’m saving lives. Whether you are directly involved with animal rescue with hands on transporting, fostering or adoptions, or more indirectly influencing rescue like I do with Doobert, remember that what you are doing matters. You may not be able to see it now because your vision is clouded by the fog of uncertainty and doubt. But keep the faith and trust yourself and your instincts. How your efforts will manifest themselves from one day to the next is something that you cannot control, and you never know what the outcome will be in particular situations or for an individual animal. It’s easy to lose faith, get frustrated and take the easy road but never forget what…no WHO you are rescuing for.
