In this episode of the Top Dog Podcast, Jackie Ducci, Founder of The Human-Animal Alliance, shares how a childhood shaped by horses and dogs inspired a lifelong mission to champion the human-animal bond. Through grantmaking, storytelling, and filmmaking, Jackie is helping more people understand just how life-changing our relationships with animals can be.
As an introverted child, Jackie often found comfort and confidence in the company of animals. While school left her feeling misunderstood, her horses became a place of acceptance, helping her build self-esteem and teaching her that meaningful connections don’t always require words.
“They saved my self-esteem.”
One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is the importance of protecting and celebrating the human-animal bond. Rather than creating another rescue organization, Jackie founded The Human-Animal Alliance to fund nonprofits that keep pets with their families, support animal-assisted therapy, and help people heal through animals.
“The world doesn’t need another program. The world needs funding flowing to the existing programs.”
Jackie also discusses Unspoken Bond, her feature-length documentary that tells the stories of people whose lives were transformed by their relationships with animals. Through powerful storytelling, the film shines a light on the healing, hope, and unconditional love that define the human-animal bond.

“Part of the power in the bond is the fact that it’s silent.”
The mission of Unspoken Bond extends beyond the screen. The documentary is currently touring the country through special theatrical screenings, bringing audiences together to celebrate the extraordinary connection between people and animals. If you’d like to attend an upcoming screening, purchase tickets, or even host a screening in your own community, visit https://unspokenbondfilm.com/.
Throughout the conversation, Jackie encourages listeners to trust their instincts and pursue meaningful work, even if it means stepping into unfamiliar territory. Without any filmmaking experience, she followed her passion and brought an important story to audiences across the country.
“If you have a passion for it, you should be doing everything that you can to make it happen.”
At its core, this episode is about connection, purpose, and using storytelling to create a more compassionate world for both people and animals.
“I want to be remembered as an advocate for the human-animal bond.”
This message is especially important for Dooberteers, fosters, volunteers, and animal advocates. Every relationship between a person and an animal has the potential to heal, inspire, and transform lives—and it’s a bond worth protecting.
