Clearer Time Zones in Logs and Messages

Times in logs and messages now use time zone labels like ET and CT, which remain consistent throughout the year and automatically account for daylight saving time.

What changed

Before

Logs and messages showed standard time abbreviations, such as CST, all year round.

They didn’t account for daylight saving time in the US, so a time in the summer could still be labeled with the standard time abbreviation.

Now

Logs and messages use time zone labels that cover both standard and daylight time, so the label is correct at any time of year.

The new time zone labels

  • ET for Eastern Time
  • CT for Central Time
  • MT for Mountain Time
  • PT for Pacific Time
  • AKT for Alaska Time
  • HST for Hawaii Time

Why it matters

The time zone shown next to a log entry or message now matches the time of year, so there’s no confusion about whether a time is in standard or daylight time.
